Christian Lagata
Christian Lagata (Jerez de la Frontera, 1986)
Lives and works in Madrid.
Christian Lagata’s work investigates the tensions between the materiality and morphology of productive environments such as industrial zones or urban concentrations and the different relationships of ‘familiarity’ (mnemonic, functional, aesthetic) that we establish with them. Beyond the logic of the objet trouvé, Christian’s work explores in certain elements of these environments the traces of his interactions (past, present or future) with humans, rethinking his economic-social consideration of “remainder” or “residue.”

He has completed advanced studies in Image and Sound and a Master’s Degree in Contemporary Photography. Some of his recent group exhibitions are Impasse: fossil aesthetics (La Casa Encendida, 2024), Haunted I (Voloshyn Gallery, Miami, 2024), Premi Ciutat de Palma Antoni Gelabert (Casal Solleric, 2024), I was Stone and I lost my center ( C3A, 2022), Dialect (CA2M, 2021), Fotonoviembre (TEA, 2021), Between the forms that go towards the serpent and the forms that seek the crystal (CAAC, 2020), Where Water Rumble | Metalloids (Interstice + SCAN, London, 2020), Between Debris and Things (CCCC, 2020) or It is not what it seems (Fabra i Coats, 2018). He has exhibited individually in Una obscura euforia (Artnueve, 2023) and Verde Chroma (Centro Párraga, 2019).
He has been a resident artist at the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Creation, C3A, Córdoba (2022), Pico do Refugio, Sao Miguel, Azores (2021), Hangar Lisboa (2019), Fundación BilbaoArte Fundazioa and Mira Forum Oporto (2018).
His work is part of collections such as the Dos de Mayo Art Center in Madrid (CA2M), the Andalusian Center for Contemporary Art (CAAC) or DKV Arteria.
