Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa

JUAN PÉREZ AGIRREGOIKOA (San Sebastián, 1963) lives and works in Paris. He studied Fine Arts, specializing in painting, at the University of the Basque Country/Euskal Herriko Unibertsitatea (UPV/EHU), obtaining a degree in 1988. In the beginning of the nineties, in 1991, he obtained the National Diploma of Plastic Arts from l’École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Years later, in 1997, he would finish his Philosophy studies at the Université Paris 8.

His progression reflects a career of intense exhibition activity, the work of Pérez Agirregoikoa has been exhibited in both national and international museums, centers and galleries, as such his works have been displayed at MNCARS-Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Castilla y León (MUSAC) in León, at Artium, the Basque Center- Museum of Contemporary Art in Vitoria-Gasteiz, at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, the Lyon Biennial, the Jakarta Biennial, the 31st São Paulo Biennial, or at the MUHKA-Museum Van Hedendaaste Kunst Antwerpen in Antwerp, among many others.

The bulk of his work is characterized by a constant criticism of the socioeconomic, political and cultural system, and by the use of sarcastic humor and biting irony.
